Bright side? Not moving to LA (yet, anyways). Down side? Didn't get the job.

Didn’t get the job that I interviewed for last week. I was the first candidate they spoke to and from experience, that’s rarely the person who gets the job. I’m not really broken up about it and I really do wish them well.

I learned a thing a while back (when interviewing with Amazon back in 2012ish ) :

When interviewing a company in a city that is a plane-ride away, spend a day being a tourist and enjoy the trip. If you don’t get the job, you still have other fond things to remember about it.

Glad I took my own advice to heart and went down a day early. In the case of the Amazon trip back in the day, that turned into an entire week where I mainly couch surfed because weather cancelled flights for 3 days. I ended up with a full week of Seattle. Not bad!

I guess now is as good of time as any to mention that I’m working on a little side project to catalog all the fun automotive experiences out there then let you build a personalized bucket list of museums, tracks, etc. The goal is to keep is ultra-simple - basically an aesthetically pleasing front end on a database. There’s not need to try and be drivetribe :)

So basically an HTML table and Datatables ? :-)

Hah, more like a guided filter system. My idea of simple is to overcomplicate things on the back end :)

I like that mindset when it comes to interviewing in another city. Will certainly try to use that in future. On to the next one!

Great ideas! One of my favorite interview trips was a job interview in New Mexico where the manager discovered our mutual interest in off-the-beaten path adventures, and we ended up driving out into the desert to see some ruins. I wish I had a picture of me in my suit and dress shoes walking through the brush!
